How Our Free Learning Program Works

Currently, 13 states plus Washington, D.C., have Death with Dignity laws. Our free database provides state-specific information for California and Oregon. We will be adding more states soon.

  1. Register for the state you want to study You register using your name and email address. We never sell or trade your information. Your information is stored in an encrypted database. Your email is used to verify your account, reset your password if needed, and send your Certificate of Completion. You may delete your account at any time.
  2. Review the Study Guides We provide interactive Study Guides covering five areas of the Medical Aid in Dying movement and the law:
    1. A Brief History of the Movement
    2. Legal Framework and Eligibility
    3. Approval Process
    4. Waiting Period
    5. A Typical Planned Death
  3. Check your understanding After reviewing each section, you answer a few multiple-choice questions to help check your understanding before continuing.
  4. Complete the program After completing all sections, you will have a very good foundational understanding of the law in your state. If you want, you can even print a Certificate of Completion stating that you completed an introductory course for your state.
  5. Go at your own pace The laws are generally straightforward to understand. Most people can review the basic material in about 30 minutes, or you can stop and return later. The course covers many of the most common questions about Death with Dignity and Medical Aid in Dying.
  6. And yes, it is free We provide this information at no cost because we believe accurate, understandable information about Death with Dignity laws should be easy to access.
